REAL PIRATES of the CARIBBEAN
Available July 7, 2006

A History of Piracy Through the Ages
Just the word "pirate" conjures up a powerful image that touches the
soul of most landlubbers. They roamed the waves in search of booty
and plunder, and their names evoke visions of danger and dashing on
the Caribbean’s cobalt seas. But the real history of piracy is a grim
and gritty tale of death and desperation. While the possibility of
wealth and fame was real, so was the chance that they would be struck
down by the guns and sabers of those they attacked, or done in by
disease or malnutrition on dangerous seas.
R eal Pirates of the Caribbean will investigate the truth behind the
legends of men like Blackbeard and other pirates who called the
Caribbean their home. Their stories will be told by leading authors,
historians and archeologists who have explored Blackbeard’s
flagship, "Queen Anne’s Revenge," in search of artifacts.
In addition, Real Pirates of the Caribbean will look at today’s
modern pirates through the eyes of such experts as law
enforcement officials, the coast guard, and the FBI. Shockingly,
today’s pirates are very similar to their predecessors of years past--
no bounty is too small, no act too ruthless or barbaric. Be it
attacking supertankers or small pleasure craft, today’s pirates use
intimidation and murder to get what they want. These buccaneers
are drug smugglers, organized-crime gangs, individual entrepreneurs,
and terrorists, all of whom will do whatever it takes to steal the
bounty they want.
With actual pirate ship footage and real life accounts, this
extraordinary documentary will capture the true essence of what it
means to be a pirate, whether two hundred years ago, or two weeks
ago. Real Pirates of the Caribbean will make it clear why the
sight of the Jolly Roger unfurled strikes terror into the hearts
of mariners around the world.
